I’ve decided that now is the time to upgrade our kitchen… I have a contractor in mind and I’m ready to run with it.
But first … there are construction laws. I bet you’re thinking ‘construction laws?’. We’re just renovating the kitchen, not constructing a building. You may not be aware, but the Construction Regulations of 2014 define Construction as: ‘any work in connection with the construction, erection, alteration, renovation, repair, demolition or dismantling of or addition to a building or similar structure…”. Your kitchen renovation falls into this category – renovation.
So, I need to make sure Health and Safety Standards are met?
Yes, as the client, it is your legal duty to ensure that a “Health and Safety Specification” is drawn up and given to the contractor, at the time of the quote, who would then need to take those specifications into consideration when pricing your new kitchen.
I don’t know what a Health and Safety Specification entails!?
This is where we come in; we have a full solution to the legal Health and Safety requirements. All you need to do is contact us to discuss your job, and we will be able to draw up your Health and Safety Specification which can then be presented to the contractor. In most cases, this won’t cost you a thing. If any accidents befall the contractor, you can sleep easily knowing that you did the right thing and that you are not legally liable for any damages or costs. If you just go ahead without legal compliance, an accident could be extremely costly to you, the client.
